Dynamic Media BT Mono Router 0.6.5

A background service is available that detects any playback on the global audio mix and then opens the BluetoothSco channel, allowing the audio to be played on a mono Bluetooth device via the hands-free profile.

Idea

Facilitate dynamic playback of any media sound on the Bluetooth device, particularly useful for audio directions from navigation software. The Bluetooth channel initiates upon playback start and closes after completion.

Comparison to Similar Apps:

Most other apps lack dynamic functionality or rely on the isMusicActive() function, which is deemed unreliable. This service utilizes the Visualizer API to accurately detect audio playback, available since API Level 19 (KitKat - Android 4.4). For lower API levels, the isMusicActive() function is used as an alternative.

State-Based Redirection

The service can only be initiated if the Bluetooth adapter is enabled. Redirection commences when a Bluetooth device is connected to the hands-free profile and halts when the connection is terminated.

Static Redirection

Selecting this option initiates audio redirection upon service start and maintains it until service termination; no audio analysis is performed.

By opting for the 'reconnect after call' feature, the service automatically restarts after ending a voice call or 'call' for media redirection, provided static redirection is active.

Intent to Start/Stop the Service

To control the service, simply send one of the following intents:

• net.philipp_koch.dynamicmediabtrouter.ON
• net.philipp_koch.dynamicmediabtrouter.OFF

Requirements:

• Android device with at least API Level 11 (Honeycomb - Android 3.0)
• API Level 18 (Jelly Bean - Android 4.3) for raw Bluetooth stream; lower versions may require manual acceptance
• API Level 19 (Kitkat - Android 4.4) for audio recognition via Visualizer API
• Bluetooth device supporting hands-free profile (e.g., headsets, car speakerphones)
• Avoid task managers as they may disrupt background service functionality

Functionality (Dynamic Mode)

If a 'call' ends, redirection persists with audio routed to nowhere; this intentional function suits navigation apps to prevent missing information. Pausing music briefly will reset redirection if unintentionally ended.

Warning Regarding Audio Quality

The hands-free profile isn't designed for high-quality audio; A2DP should be considered for better sound reproduction.
